NFL trade deadline 2026: what each deal changes

In three days at the end of October, three clubs with winning records traded for linemen. Two of them landed defensive linemen from the top ten of Downfield's 2026 grades, at prices that were not close: San Francisco (6-1) gave a 2027 fourth-round pick for DeForest Buckner, 9th of 177; Chicago (5-2) gave two first-round picks for Jeffery Simmons, 6th, in a deal that also swapped a fourth-round pick for a fifth.

Seven trades since the season opened on Sep 9, five of them to clubs with winning records at the time. The deadline is 4 p.m. ET on Tuesday, Nov 10. Each deal below: what moved, what went back, and what Downfield's numbers say it changes.

How the numbers are read

The trades. Every trade on the NFL's own transactions list from opening night, Sep 9, with its terms as the two clubs announced them. The cut-down trades of late August, before the games counted, are left out. A trade carries the date the league's list gives it.

The grades. Downfield Score v7.0 rates a player against his position from his own play-by-play this season, after shrinking small samples toward the average, and lists his strongest components as percentiles. Offensive linemen are not graded: public play-by-play does not say who blocked whom. What the score counts and how it is checked.

The clubs. A record "when they dealt" counts the club's games before the trade date. Unit ranks are EPA per play, 1 the best of 32, over every designed run and every dropback (passes, sacks and scrambles) this season; EPA is explained here. They cover games before and after the deal, so a rank is where a unit stands, not a verdict on one player.

The dates. Downfield's figures run through Nov 1, 2026; a player's games for his new club appear as the data catches up. Snap counts are Pro Football Reference's, by way of nflverse.
